  • TEA TREE OIL

Tea tree oil has many anti-bacterial properties. While it’s not safe for consumption it’s perfectly safe to use on the skin and is non-carcinogenic. Tea tree oil is made naturally from the Melaleucaalternifolia plant. This plant is quite common in the New South Wales region of Australia. It has a fresh scent and is usually pale yellow or colorless oil. It has an oily feel between the fingers. Tea tree oil is considered an anti-microbial. There have been studies done that have proven that this oil can kill MRSA or staph infections in the hospitals, but it will also kill the Propionibacterium acnes that live inside hair follicles which can lead to acne inflammations

The best tea tree oil should be 100% pure, unrefined, and chemical-free. It’s sourced from the best leaves of the plant. Read the label carefully to ensure that the tea tree oil hasn’t been diluted with a cheaper type of oil.

Method: Dilute a few drops of tea tree oil with 20 to 40 drops of witch hazel, and apply to the skin once or twice a day with a cotton swab. Be careful to not overuse it: while gentler than benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil can dry out your skin, triggering your body to overproduce its own oils and make your acne worse. If you apply it to your face, stay out of the sun—tea tree oil can make you more sensitive to UV rays.
