An ex-rugby alliance player, his significant other and their three youngsters have passed on after a vehicle fire in the Australian city of Brisbane.

Rowan Baxter and the kids, all under 10, were discovered dead at the scene by crisis responders, police said.

His better half, Hannah Baxter, matured 31, passed on later in emergency clinic from broad consumes. She had purportedly bounced from the vehicle hollering: "He's poured oil on me".

Police are examining how the fire began.

"How the fire really happened has not been determined right now so for us to consider it a homicide suicide or an appalling mishap, it's wrong at this stage," Detective Inspector Mark Thompson said.

"I've seen some awful scenes - this is up there with the absolute best of them."

Police were first called to the scene in Camp Hill region in the east of Brisbane at 08:30 neighborhood time on Wednesday (21:30 GMT on Tuesday).

They found the couple's three youngsters - matured six, four and three - dead inside the vehicle.

Crisis groups attempted to resuscitate Rowan Baxter, 42, however he was pronounced dead.

Australian media report that he was discovered near the vehicle with a self-dispensed cut injury.

He had been in the front seat and Hannah Baxter had been driving the vehicle, police said.

The pair had apparently isolated before the end of last year, and were attempting to work out care plans.
