Spinal cord tumours are of two types primary and secondary –

Primary spinal cord tumours develop from the spinal cord

The secondary spinal cord tumours spread from cancer at another site of the body.

• Extradural tumors - Grow in the membrane surrounding the spinal cord (the dura mater)

• Intradural-extramedullary - Tumors that grow outside the spinal cord but within the dura mater

• Intramedullary tumors - Intramedullary tumors grow inside the spinal cord
